Sweet Tea

I could just call it tea. Because there is only one kind of tea served in this house...that delicious southern syrup known as sweet tea.

I have been known to order sweet tea at a restaurant and send it back after taking a sip...we are serious about our tea here in the GRITS house. :)

So, here it is...the secret recipe for perfect sweet tea - every time.

Put a quart of water on the stove to boil.
Meanwhile, put 1-1/2 cups of sugar in your gallon pitcher.
When the water begins to boil, pour it over the sugar, and give it a stir to dissolve it all.
Add about another half of a quart of water, so you have 1/2 gallon of water in your pitcher.
Steep 7 tea bags in your water for 3 minutes (longer if you like stronger tea).  Add ice until your pitcher is full.  Pour yourself a big glass, and ENJOY! :)

New Year Kick Off

What better way to start off our year of FridayNightFamilyNight than by ringing in the new year?!

Grab your favorite appetizers and snack foods - we let each grit pick theirs, some drinks (don't forget the sparkling cider for the toast at midnight!!) and a selection of movies.  Generally, we go for a series of movies - this year it was National Treasure 1 and 2.

Cooking with GRITS

Food. Not just any food....not just the rummaging in the pantry to find something to eat only because I'm hungry and have to eat something NOW kind of food....but the kind of food that makes you sigh and smile, and gleefully wrap up the leftovers so you can have more later.  Sometimes its's a main dish, sometimes it's a dessert, sometimes it's a beverage.  If it makes us wanna go back for seconds and thirds, you'll find it here.

Road Trip

Homeschooling the Cheesy GRITS gives us lots of opportunities to get out and about...and it is ALWAYS an adventure!
